John Fountain's Renewed Faith                                  (Feature article- fatherhood Newsletter 02-01-06)
John Fountain grew up poor in Chicago. At age 22, he was a college dropout, married with three children and living on welfare. Although Fountain grew up in a family that practiced the Pentecost faith, he was having a difficult time maintaining his religious beliefs. But now Fountain has renewed faith, a college degree and works as a national correspondent for The New York Times.  Fountain is also the author of True Vine:   A Young Black Man's Journey of Faith, Hope

Maryland's Initiative for Fathers and Families
The State of Maryland has long been a pioneer in family-focused services. While other states have focused on families, they have not always been successful in targeting one of the families most overlooked members, fathers. Since fathers are overlooked they, in turn, are under-served. Recognizing these mitigating factors, Maryland has undertaken a bold and innovative approach to fatherhood programs through its the Maryland Initiative for Fathers and Families.


First off, it's 2010. Are we still supposed to be shocked by male tears? Didn't Rosey Grier take care of that back in 1972 with his vulnerable, semi-on-key song, "It's All Right to Cry?"
